Highland Dance Competition Rules

1. The competition will be conducted following the SOBHD rules and regulations. Judges’ decisions are final.

2. Age groups will be determined according to the number of entries. Age for competition purposes applies as of the date of the event. Proof of age must be furnished if requested.

3. Dancers must present a current registration card to compete. The competition is open to primary, beginner, novice, intermediate, and premier dancers.

4. A trophy will be awarded to the highest point winner in each age group. No trophy will be awarded in the Primary category. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st place, 88 points; 2nd place, 56 points; 3rd place, 38 points; and 4th place, 25 points.

5. Dancers who enter the competition first will dance last. Dancers must be ready and appear when called, or forfeit the chance to dance in that event.

6. No medals may be worn during competition.

7. Competitors will remain in uniform until all medals and trophies have been awarded. The Premier 16 & Over Class trophy will be presented during the Games closing ceremonies.

8. No entry will be accepted without payment of appropriate entry fees. Entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars. Entries postmarked after the registration deadline will be subject to a late fee.

9. Medals will be awarded in each event, except for the Premier 16 and over category, which will receive cash prizes of $60 for first place; $40 for second place; and $25 for third place.

10. For the health and safety of participants, no smoking will be allowed in the Starlight Ballroom during dance competition. Audience members who wish to smoke are asked to step outside.

11. The Celtic Highland Games of the Quad Cities disclaims any and all liability for injury to persons or property related to the event. Participants agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the Celtic Highland Games of the Quad Cities, its officers, agents, and sponsors, harmless from all such liability. Heirs and executors waive and release any all right and claims for damages against the Celtic Highland Games of the Quad Cities, agents or representatives for any injuries or loss which may be suffered by attending, participating, or traveling to or from the Celtic Highland Games. Participation or attendance constitutes authorization to use and reproduce any and all photographs, negatives or positives, proofs and prints of which shall remain solely and completely the property of the Celtic Highland Games of the Quad Cities.

Please note: One dancer’s gate pass is included in the entry fee. Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your entry, and your pass will be mailed to you.
