Have a Fling at the Celtic Highland Games

Highland Dance Competition
From the energetic fling to the dramatic sword dance, the grace and beauty of the Highland dance competitions are not to be missed. As you watch the competitions, remember that they began as athletic contests between warriors. The sword dance was once done before going into battle, and it was considered unlucky if the dancer’s feet touched the blade.

Competitions go on in the climate-controlled Starlight Ballroom of the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa, and are open to primary, beginner, novice, intermediate and premier dancers. No smoking will be allowed in the Starlight Ballroom during dance competitions. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for entrants under 18 years of age.
