1st Tuesday of each month, starting October 2006: Friendly Session at Fireworks in Moline, hosted by The Barley House Band.

"Friendly" Sessions Return to Fireworks Coffeehouse, first Tuesday of each month: The Barley House Band's monthly "friendly Irish music session" will resume Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Fireworks Coffeehouse, 2139 16th St., Moline (across from Whitey's). The sessions will run from 7 to 9, give or take, and continue the first Tuesday of the month until summer.

What's a "friendly" session? How do "friendly" sessions differ from "slow" sessions and "traditional" sessions? The "friendly" sessions are low-pressure, relaxed gatherings for players of all skill levels, and especially welcoming beginners and young players. We won't spend the entire evening working on one or two tunes – as is the case at a true slow session. We will, however, play tunes slowly for the benefit of those trying to get up to speed. We'll also play tunes at, or near, their regular tempo. We'll introduce tunes before playing them, and people will be given an opportunity to refresh their memories before we jump in. Participants are welcome to bring sheet music, which isn't done at a traditional session.

1st Saturday of month: Open celtic music session at Mac's Tavern, Davenport. 1 to 4 p.m. Open to public.

Third Thursday of the month: Open Session at Dot's Pots (basement), 2822 16th St., Moline, IL 61265 (309) 736-7247. Open to the public.
