Celtic Games of Strength...  Show Your Might!

If you’re a competitor . . . “Heavy Events” entrants are welcome in six divisions! To learn more, please review our Rules and Entry Form. Some divisions may be limited in size, so don’t wait! Apply now.

If you’re a spectator . . .
The Heavy Events, also called the Games of Brawn or Games of Strength, are one of the traditional features of any Highland Games festival. We hope you’ll enjoy the experience of watching flying telephone poles (cabers), heavy hammers and more feats of strength.

Please note – because this portion of our festival is an athletic competition with at least six divisions, several simultaneous events and an unknown number of entrants, it’s impossible for us to predict exactly what will happen when! We can’t tell you exactly when they will throw the caber, or when competition will wrap up for the day. Plan to come early and stay for a while!

Events, in no particular order, may include:

- The Caber Toss
- Hammer Throw
- Sheaf Toss
- Stone Throws, or Puts
- Weight Throws for Distance
- Weight Throws for Height
- Farmers Walk or Barrel Throw (optional events)

New this year - An extra "tri-fecta" of Irish throwing events, scored separately from the other heavy events.

The three Irish throws include:

• A two-handed stone throw (112 pound/56 pound*)

• The "Irish Sling," thrown like the standing weight over bar, but for distance, not height. (56 pound/28 pound)

• Irish Shotput (56 pound/28 pound)
*Men's weight/women's division weight
